The third EARS event ”EARS on Performing Arts” is organized as part of ICE HOT – Nordic Dance Platform.
EARS on Performing Arts introduces representatives of the new generation of Asian performing arts professionals – performing arts groups, festivals, venues etc. The two EARS afternoons provide the audience with an opportunity to learn about the latest developments in the performing arts scenes in Asia, including countries like Singapore, China, Japan and Korea.

Karen Cheung
Director of the Guangdong Dance Festival
& Program Director of Beijing Dance Festival, China
Karen was born in Hong Kong and received her education there and later on attained her master degree in Cultural Studies in the Netherlands. She joined the Guangdong Modern Dance Company in 2004 after the company had been selected as a forerunner of the re-structuring campaign among the performing arts companies in China and was changing from a state subvented and administered organization to a joint corporation with the City Contemporary Dance Company from Hong Kong. During her terms as Company Manager (2004-2006) and as Administrative Director (2006-2011), Karen has led different dance projects including guest performances, art resdencies and co-productions. She has also taken part in organizing the annual Guangdong Modern Dance Festival, where she was appointed Director since November 2011. She is also the Program Director of the Beijing Dance Festival, which is an annual event held in Beijing in July.
Jong-Ho Lee
director of SIDance Festival, Seoul
Other than being a dance journalist and president of Seoul Section of Int’l Dance Council CID-UNESCO, Jong-Ho Lee has been involved in numerous dance-related projects and units, as he says “I do everything for dance, except for dancing myself.” He was a council member of IOTPD (International Organization for the Transition of Professional Dancers), deeply interested in improving social and economic status of dance and dancers. Realizing the importance of regional cultural exchange, he intends to extend the Asian collaboration with various co-productions and networks as well as colloquiums. He is also an advisor for Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and Arts Council Korea, as well as a juror for various awards and numerous public funds.
Shinji Ono
Producer Aoyama Theatre, Tokyo
Shinji Ono has been engaged in producing among others dance and music performances and workshops, coproductions and festivals, and has also been active in promoting networks with theatres and festivals both in Japan and abroad. He has produced “Dance Triennale Tokyo” www.datto.jp/index-en (since 2002), “Korea+Japan Dance Contact (2003-2007), “Korea Dance Museum” (2005), “TOKYO DANCE TODAY“ Series (since 2008), “DANCE-X Montreal-Seoul-Tokyo” (since 2008).
Member of the jury for Toyota Choreography Award 2010 ,Yokohama Dance Collection EX 2011 -12-13 and Seoul International Choreography Festival 2011 -12.
Tang Fu Kuen
Independent critic, dramaturg and producer, Singapore/Bangkok
Tang Fu Kuen (Singapore, b. 1972) is an independent Bangkok-based dramaturg, curator and producer of contemporary performance and visual fields, working in Asia and Europe.
He was the sole curator of the Singapore pavilion at the 53rd Venice Biennale, presenting artist Ming Wong, receiving a special jury mention. He has worked/been working in the Singapore Arts Festival, Indonesian Dance Festival, In Transit Festival (Berlin), Bangkok Fringe Festival, Colombo Dance Platform (Sri Lanka), amongst others, and will curate a platform for Exodos Festival in Ljubljana in April 2013. He produces and manages for contemporary Asian dance and performance makers: Pichet Klunchun (Thailand), Padmini Chettur (India), Daniel Kok (Singapore), Choy Ka Fai (Singapore) and Eisa Jocson (Philippines). He continues to collaborate with artist Ming Wong (Berlin).
Center Stage China
The seminar will also present a new Chinese-Finnish joint venture for performing arts and theatre management – Center Stage China, first one of its kind between an foreign and Chinese company.
The afternoon sessions are organized in collaboration with Dance Info Finland.
