The fourth EARS event ”EARS on Music” focuses on Asian music markets 

2012 will be remembered as the year when Asian pop music broke into the international mainstream with PSY’s massive hit Gangnam Style.

“EARS on Music” introduces Asian music industry professionals in the fields of music publishing, management and PR working with megastars such as Girls Generation, Wonder Girls, Shinee & Super Junior.

The EARS afternoon 8th of February provides the audience with an opportunity to learn about the latest trends in Asia’s biggest music markets Korea, Japan and also rising China.

Finnish songwriters who’ve recently written many for some of Asia’s biggest pop stars will be also talking about their work.

The event is organized in collaboration with MUSIC FINLAND and SIBELIUS ACADEMY, UNIVERSITY OF THE ARTS HELSINKI.

Iris Choi is working as the A&R manager for Universal Music Publishing Korea. She works closely with Korean labels such as SM Entertainment, Universal Music Korea, JYP Entertainment, Woollim Entertainment, Bighit Entertainment, Cube Entertainment, CJ E&M and more.  UMPK pitched and placed more than 50 international demo songs to Korean artists in 2012 including 8 singles. Artists include Girls Generation, Super Junior, Shinee, 2PM, Miss A and Tasty.

JADEN JEONG

Chief A&R, Woollim Entertainment, Korea

Jaden was originally a well known K-pop blogger. He started his music career at Seotaiji’s company in 2000 – a legendary artist who was the first to bring and adapt hiphop & rap genres for the Korean market.

As a freelancer he’s worked with many major artists such as Hyori Lee, Shinhwa, Brown Eyed Soul and Ivy. He’s also worked as the Creative manager at JYP Entertainment working with Wonder girls among other artists.

Currently Jaden is the chief A&R director at Woollim Entertainment and represents artists such as Infinite, Tasty, and Nell who all have their own unique styles of music.

BENNY RUBIN

President, Yikes Corp., Japan

Benny Rubin is the President and co-founder of Yikes Corp based in Tokyo. Yikes creates the daily tweets, posts, comments, and other daily content that helps move marketing campaigns forward. Yikes’s clients include major music, film, and advertising companies such as Universal Music, Universal Pictures, Sony Music Entertainment, Sony Pictures, Saatchi & Saatchi Fallon, GroupM, and many more.

YANG YU

Head of International, Midi Festival,  China

Yu Yang spend his childhood and youth in Germany where he started his own rock magazine at teenage time and doing heavy metal live events. He returned to his hometown Beijing in 1996 after high school and kept on doing promotion, websites and graphic design jobs for German record labels and bands.

In 2000 he co-founded the Chinese print periodical Painkiller Magazine with friends and started doing live shows involving both domnestic and international acts. In his spare time he set up the website Rockinchina.com in 2003 which now is the biggest data base in English about Chinese rock and alternative music.

In recent years, one of his main focuses in the music industry has shifted onto culture exchange sector, especially with north European countries (see www.allnordic.com) and Germany, conducting projects often in collaboration or on behalf of Midi Festival/Midi School of Music. Since 2011 he has become the official head of international at Midi.
